Happy Women's Day!
I get a lot of emails offering me free stuff. Usually the email says something along the lines of “Dear What Jew Wanna Eat, I stumbled upon your blog on (fill in the blank with generic summary of my blog) and love it especially your recipe (insert last posted recipe here). I thought you would really enjoy our (ski sunglasses, diet drink, do rag- seriously).” I often respond asking what Jewish food and sarcasm has to do with do rags (although if someone wants to send me a Jewnicorn do rag I won’t turn it down) and rarely get a response.

Last week, though, I received an email from H-E-B, an awesome supermarket here in Texas and Mexico, asking if I would like to send a bouquet of tulips to a woman in honor of National Women’s Day. I love that! You may or may not know but I work part time there doing food demos, answering pressing cooking questions, and teaching cooking classes. It’s a fun gig! The people that work and shop there are all cool and inspiring and fun. I could write a book about the winners I have met! But that is neither here nor there.

Anyhoo, I immediately thought of my friend Leah. She moved from Austin to Houston with her studly husband after getting married last summer (and after having pretty much the best wedding reception floating the river EVER. Complete with koozie party favors.) We miss her terribly! Not only is Leah a native Texan, a goal of mine I will never achieve, but she is one of the funniest gals around, has an affinity for mini animals (who doesn’t?!) and never needs an excuse to indulge in a margarita or four. Since we don’t get to see her as much as we would like, I thought the flowers would be a nice way to say we are thinking of her over in Austin!

Here we are at the rodeo in Austin last year- me, Beka, Nicole, and Leah. I wore my best Texas semi formal.
Happy Women's Day!

Leah sent us a photo of the flowers when she got them. So pretty! The card attached read:
Dear Leah,
We aspire to be as Texan as you one day. Happy International Women’s Day!
Happy Women's Day!
It’s not too late! Who would you honor for Women’s Day?

Mazel!

Disclaimer: The flowers were sent c/o H-E-B in the spirit of Women’s Day to honor a special lady. Also, I work at part time at H-E-B but all opinions are my own!

About Amy!

Amy Kritzer

Shalom! I’m Amy Kritzer Becker and welcome to What Jew Wanna Eat! Your source for home cooked (sometimes) kosher goodness. I have always enjoyed cooking and baking, but needed a new goal, a challenge, to get back to my culinary roots. So, I called up Bubbe Eleanor and pleaded for her to send me her best recipes. Stat!
