Beet Tahini Smoothie aka “Jewthie”

Beet Tahini Smoothie

Turn up the beet! And put it in this Beet Tahini Smoothie. Beet Tahini Smoothie

Beet Tahini SmoothieIt can’t be beet! Must. Stop. With the beet puns. It’s bananas!

Sorry, I may be addicted to puns. And speaking of addicted, I recently started kickboxing and I’m obsessed! There is not much better than beating the crap out of a bag during a long week, or sweating out a long weekend. (What smells like whiskey? Is that me?) I’m so thirsty after a class that all I want is a smoothie, but why blow $9 when I can make my own??

So when Melinda over at Kitchen Tested asked if I could guest post for her while her kitchen is renovated, I was happy to! Melinda is know for a mix of decadent sweets (like Red Velvet Chicken and Waffles) and healthier mains (like Zucchini Ravioli) so this seemingly sinful beet tahini smoothie affectionately known as a “Jewthie” seemed perfect!

Even though I’ve known Melinda on the Internet for years, I only met her for the first time when I was in NYC for the Kosher Food Bloggers Conference. She is so fun and bubbly in person, so I was jazzed when I got to hang out with her again when she was in Austin for a conference last week! We frolicked around South Congress, noshed on tasty kosher ribs, and even schlepped a torah from north Austin to her hotel in time for Shabbat.  Talk about an adventure!!

I’ve been reading Kitchen Tested for years; Melinda won me over immediately with her fun, insanely creative recipes, especially her takes on hamantaschen. (Like Bagel, Lox and Cream Cheese Hamantaschen or the uber popular Rainbow Hamantaschen!)Beet Tahini Smoothie

Smoothies are healthy by definition, right? But this Sephardic inspired smoothie is so tasty, you may think it’s a diet-breaker. Naturally sweet from bananas and beets, with spiced cardamom and nutty tahini. Perfect for breakfast or a snack, plus it’s pink! And pink food is just fun to eat. Science.

Shalom! I’m Amy Kritzer Becker and welcome to What Jew Wanna Eat! Your source for home cooked (sometimes) kosher goodness. I have always enjoyed cooking and baking, but needed a new goal, a challenge, to get back to my culinary roots. So, I called up Bubbe Eleanor and pleaded for her to send me her best recipes. Stat!
