Sweet and Sour Chicken Meatballs

Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Mmm meatballs. Otherwise known as the little brother to the equally delicious meatloaf. Who doesn’t love ’em? These sweet and sour chicken meatballs are a riff on Bubbe’s classic recipe using chicken instead of beef. So you can eat twice as many! A little sweet, a little sour, and put it on a toothpick and you have a perfect party appetizer! Because the only thing better than meat, is meat on a stick. But I digress. Here is all Jew need to make your own Sweet and Sour Meatballs:

Sweet and Sour Meatballs

First saute one onion in a little olive oil over medium heat until tender. Then add tomato sauce and wine and stir. Then add the Nektar Naturals (sugar works too), lemon juice, vinegar, water, allspice and salt and pepper. Lower heat to medium low and let simmer. Meanwhile, mix together ground chicken, minced garlic, diced onion, 1 egg, minced cilantro, breadcrumbs, and I added in a squirt of Sriracha because I put it in everything!! Addicted. Then form into little balls.
Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Heat up a large skillet over medium heat and add in olive oil. Then brown meatballs on either side. This gives them extra flavor and helps them stay in ball form! Add them to the sauce, cover and simmer for 20 minutes until the sauce is thick and the meat is cooked through.

Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Garnish with extra cilantro and serve hot!

What a clever idea for crystallized honey! I would sprinkle it on top of oatmeal raisin cookies. Or just about any cookie! I will have to look for it in my area. Definitely gonna try those meatballs too!!

Honey in meatballs – who knew? Would definitely try that. Honey crystals…I think they would work nicely on top of muffins, perhaps. Also thinking that would work well in drinks – especially easy for tea. On oatmeal – yum.

I could not find Nektar here in Adelaide so I added our yummy blue gum honey….these meatballs were sensational. The only thing I changed was to bake the meatballs on an oven tray 180C for 20 mins then added to the sauce….yummy
