  2. says

Too hard to decide on a single spice because it depends on the type of cooking I am doing and the particular dish. I can’t imagine Italian cooking without garlic; I use zaatar as a great flavor enhancer on fish, and love curry on vegetables and Indian food. If I want to be healthy, I think tumeric.

  3. Marcia says

I love rosemary. It’s good on so many things and I can grow it on my little NYC terrace!

  4. Lucy says

I have gotten to love tumeric and cumin in my cooking. I use it in my chicken soup and rice and many other dishes. I do subscribe to the e-mail WJWE.

  5. says

Freshly cracked black pepper is easily my favorite spice, but if I had to pick a favorite pantry spice I would say smoked paprika is my favorite. It brings so much flavor to the party! Perfect for hummus. :)

  6. Paula Goldman says

I love chili powder for the flavor and color! I liked both sites on FB, signed up for emails on Amy’s site for the matzo phone cover, and did stable on this contest. I would love to win these because I am a white belt when it comes to really utilizing spices. Thanks for the contests!!

  7. Christina says

I love so many spices, but if I had to choose just one (salt and pepper don’t count, and let’s call garlic a vegetable) I’d have to choose chile powder. Spicy, smokey, and flavorful.

  8. says

my favorite spice is paprika- Both my parents are Hungarian so I grew up not only using paprika the way Americans use salt but we also always had a supply of fresh paprika from Hungary. The red color is so vibrant and the flavor of authentic Hungarian paprika is so potent. In my house we take our paprika very seriously!

  9. bethelderton says

Ginger root powder. I use it in homemade treats for my pregnant friends and friends going through chemo. It’s great for nausea

Picking a favorite spice is really hard! I like dill quite a lot, maybe I will say that one. But cinnamon is really good. And then you need such a variety for the variety of recipes.

Cayenne pepper. I grew up always having competitions with my brother to see who could eat spicier food and it just stuck with me. Now my kid, hubby, and even my dog all love spicy food.

Cumin tastes like my childhood! My dad put it on nachos with his home-canned, spicy-sweet peppers and extra sharp cheddar, in hummus for a little kick , and it even showed up in my mom’s savory quiches with sausage and mushrooms. Love it :)
