You read that right- Hanukkah came early this year, kids. If gentiles can have Christmas is July, then what is stopping us from taking Hanukkah/Chanukah in August? Nothing, I say! Not only have my Mexican Potato Latkes been all over the interwebs as of late (such as here and here) but I stumbled upon this BRILLIANT Kickstarter campaign for not so ugly Hanukkah sweaters by Geltfiend. What’s Kickstarter you ask? Good question! Basically, you post your proposed idea and a fundraising goal and voila! Watch the money roll in. With Geltfiend, you can pre-order an adorable sweater at a discounted price, and help a fellow Jew out all in one purchase. What could a Jew possibly want more besides saving money while performing a mitzvah? It’s a win/win!
Just check out their adorable video:
Bwahaha don’t Jew just love it? Fourth meal with Isaac Berger. I giggle like a school girl every time I watch! Lucky for us, the lovely folks at Geltfiend has gifted WJWE one sweater to give away to a lucky reader as a “thank you” for all your votes so far in the Daily Candy Start Small, Go Big Contest!!! I nearly plotzed when I heard that news myself. I am partial to the Spinster since I look adorable in blue and gimmels:
But I also love the precious Hasidic clan on the Borough Park:
Especially if that fine kosher lad is free with purchase. Rour. So how do you win? Great question! Here is all it takes.
- Vote for What Jew Wanna Eat in the Daily Candy Start Small, Get Big contest every day for the next three days. (Contest ends at 11:59pm ET on Friday, August 24th). Make sure to pick one person in each category in order for your vote to count! You can even win money and prizes for voting!! Okay this isn’t required but highly suggested.
- Most importantly, check out Geltfiend’s website and leave a comment letting me know which sweater is your fave. Check out their Kickstarter too and consider investing!
You have between now and Tuesday, August 28th at 11:59pm CT to enter. Winner will be announced on Wednesday, August 29th. Good luck!
Mazel!
Amy
*Geltfiend gave me a sweater to giveaway, but all opinions are my own. And my opinion is that they are awesome. Note that the winner will not receive the sweater until Geltfiend starts shipping in November, but I promise it will be worth the wait!

Wow! I have to say – what a creative & cool Jewish company! Thanks for bringing it to our attention! So, I think my fave is the Geltdigger! Love the name 🙂

If I win a lovely Hanukkah sweater, I am giving it to my mother-in-law, my kid’s Bubbie. That is so right up her alley. Too cute. Going to vote again (you are winning!) and check out the Geltfiend stuff.
BTW, making your apple honey cupcakes for our Rosh Hashanah dinner with Hub’s family and those latkes (which are my new favorite thing to look at ever) are first on our Hanukkah menu.

OK, back again. It’s the blue dreidel one for the MIL! Adorable! Too funny that it’s called the Spinster. (She’s not, of course.)

I think I’m going to have to go with the Spinster as well…although I pondered the Geltdigger just for the name, that cracks me up.

I’m 100% certain I can’t celebrate Hanukkah unless I have this sweater: http://www.geltfiend.com/collections/frontpage/products/spinster

Hands down The Spinster! Now we won’t be the only kids in town without a holiday sweater!

Voted- good luck! I love the Spinster but the Spinmaster is hard to beat, too. Here in Wichita, I’m often told that Naomi Shapiro is a really unusual name, so I imagine that Geltfiend sweaters would be a real conversation starter…
Amy says
Thanks! Haha Naomi Shapiro sounds pretty darn normal to me!

Voted! Good luck! going to vote the next days, too! I love your recipes!
And I love the sweaters! Especially Spinster! Thank you!

Thanks, Katie!

I made sure to go and vote for you. Yours was my favorite anyway, so that worked out great! I love the Spinster and I’m such a cardigan person! But I’m not Jewish myself, so if it’s disrespectful for a goy to rock the Hebrew, then Crown Heights is pretty cool too. I love them all! 🙂
Amy says
Thanks, Melissa! Ha I have worn quite a few Christmas sweaters in my day, so I definitely think you can rock a Hanukkah one!
Kelly in DC says
I would totally rock the spinster. For weeks I’ve been voting daily on the Start Small, Go Big. I’ve actually developed a system– I vote for WJWE every day, but I rotate the rest of my votes, so I’m not giving anyone else *too many* votes. Hehehe. Good luck Amy!! You deserve it!
Amy says
Aw thanks, Kelly, that’s so sweet! Thanks for voting every day. And good strategy too!

Voted! And the Spinster looks great…I actually have a white skirt I’d wear with it and a little Israeli flag pin to finish the look. 🙂
Amy says
Thanks for the vote! That outfit sounds adorable.

I could pretty much rock that Spinmaster sweater. I’ve got the black and red hipster spectacles to top it off. Even though I’m way too old to be a hipster. (I RAIL AGAINST THE LIGHT!)
Amy says
That look would be amazing!! I don’t think there is an age limit on hipsters… http://dadsaretheoriginalhipster.tumblr.com/

Love the Spinster look too, more retro – right up my alley. Love your recipes!

Thanks, Theresa!

Would really love having this sweater. Would wear it on all the holidays. It would make a great conversation piece at a sedar. 😉

I think my granddaughter would love the dreidel sweater. It does get cool in Israel during the winter.

Love this sweater (Spinster)! Cute!

Spinmaster for sure. My jewish girlfriend’s family would die laughing if I showed up in that this winter.
